CMF condemns assisted suicide

CMF Director Peter Saunders commented: 'Mr Crew's is a tragic and uncommon case. Very few people - even with motor-neurone disease - want assisted suicide, and only 6% of hospice patients will even discuss the issue.

Rather than helping patients to die, doctors should concentrate on giving the best possible care, by addressing the physical, spiritual and psycho-social symptoms. This is now perfectly possible.

Assisted suicide is NOT the answer. There should be no change to UK law as a result of this case.'
