The Department of Health has funded the RCPsych to carry out a major review of the mental health impact of abortion on women. This report is likely to influence any future Government policy and advice on the health consequences and care of women post abortion. “ The focus of the review is to consider the question from a woman's point of view, that is, if a woman considering an abortion were to ask what the risks are to her mental health, what answer would be given?” (p16).
The review grades research data that studies mental health outcomes for women more than 90 days post-abortion.Three review questions were used to guide the analysis of the data. At the end of each section, there are several concluding 'evidence statements'.
