Guideline scope - Termination of pregnancy
Published: 18th July 2017
Published 20 July 2017
The Department of Health in England has asked NICE to develop a new guideline on Termination of Pregnancy.
Around one in three women will have a termination, and each year just under 200,000 women have a termination in England, Wales and Scotland. In recent years there have been changes to how and where termination of pregnancy services are delivered. Pressure is increasing to permit more early abortions to be carried out in the mother's home, using medical means.
NICE is consulting about the scope of the new guideline and invites responses to the question: Which interventions or forms of practice might result in cost saving recommendations if included in the guideline?
The guideline will look at evidence and make recommendations in four areas, namely: assessment for termination; care during termination; care following termination; service configuration.
