CMF have submitted a limited response to the Irish Medical Council Public Consultation regarding the Guide to Professional Conduct and Ethics for Registered Medical Practitioners. The current (eighth edition) of the Guide is under review and the consultation process will inform the creation of the ninth edition.
The Guide is a lengthy document covering Partnership, Practice and Performance, but we have engaged with only one element of the section on Practice, that of Conscientious Objection. The conscience provision in the Guide, in our opinion, does not take adequate account of the change in the law on abortion in the Republic.
The consultation documents and online response form can be found at theMedical Council - Public Consultation on The Ethical Guide website.
The consultation process closed on 4 August 2021
