Soon the job was done, and he was free from the plaster. Sliding the fingers of his other hand over the cast, he said, 'I'm going to miss this. It was very useful to write telephone numbers and dates on. You know, doctor, I haven't missed an appointment since I broke my arm -- but it sure feels good to be free. Yes, it is so nice to be free.'
I turned off the electric saw, and a heavy silence came upon us. He glanced at the table where the saw lay dead. Striding to the exit door and shaking his head, he said, 'A doctor who talks like a rabbi -- a saw that is mighty and cuts plaster, but stops when it touches flesh -- and, wonder of wonders, a rabbi who keeps silent when he should be telling you so many things. It must be the end times for things like this to be happening. Surely, the Messiah is coming soon!' And having said that, he left, repeating, 'Messiah is coming soon!'
He was right. Time is short. The Messiah is coming again. Somewhere in this city of Buenos Aires there is a man whom God loves, a man with a long beard and a prayer shawl whom God sees. In the agenda of this man's life, he has been missing the most important appointment of all. he may now be considering for the first time in his life the fact that the Messiah has already come! Men like him once asked before, '... Rabbi, when camest thou here?' (Jn 6:25). Let us pray that it will not be long before he confesses to Jesus, '... Rabbi... thou art the King of Israel!' (Jn 1:49).
