Daniel 2: 36 - 45
Embracing the Miraculous
Do miracles still happen today? This question is a regular challenge to Christians. We have all heard stories of healings and miracles, and it is ironic that these things always seem to happen so far from home! Perhaps you will see a miracle while on your medical elective. Or perhaps you will come across something that you cannot explain - a real mystery.
This was the situation Daniel found himself in when he revealed to Nebuchadnezzar the king the meaning of his dream. It was such a strange dream and it may refer to the empires that were to follow Nebuchadnezzar’s reign. In all honesty, no one is quite sure what it all means. What is certain is that God wished to communicate to this king that he was not all-powerful and that his kingdom would not last forever. In fact, he was telling him that it would be destroyed (vs39, 44). God tells Nebuchadnezzar that only His Kingdom will last forever and in so doing revealed a great mystery to him.
I’m sure you have already encountered many things on your trip that seem mysterious. I would urge you to take heart from the interpretation of this dream. When Daniel was under the threat of death, God revealed the unknowable to him, so that he could show an unscrupulous king that only God was immortal.
Perhaps God will show you something similar today. His Spirit may direct you to a person who desperately needs to hear that forgiveness and acceptance by God is possible. You may have the privilege of explaining the greatest mystery of all, the mystery of the cross - that Christ has died once for all who believe and obey Him (Ephesians 1: 9 - 10).
Prayer and Action
Spend some time thanking God that he is able to do more than all we expect or imagine. (see Ephesians 3: 20)
Ask Him give you the opportunity to share the Gospel with someone today.
