IHP is Europe’s largest coordinator of donated medicines, providing a professional service to enable healthcare companies and aid agencies to support patients around the world who cannot otherwise access the medicines they need.
IHP co-ordinates the response of the European healthcare industry to major disasters, working closely with the World Health Organisation Health Cluster and leading medical NGOs, to deliver lifesaving treatments immediately after a disaster, and filling gaps in supply during the recovery and reconstruction periods.
IHP provides on-going medical support in a number of countries around the world that suffer from a chronic lack of access to medicines. Our programmes range from supporting single hospitals, to focusing on specific diseases, and more comprehensive country-wide initiatives that include capacity building.
Recognising the need to provide a broad range of essential medicines to rural facilities and remote locations around the world, we supply pre-packed kits (Doctors’ Travel Packs) of essential medicines that are highly mobile and can be used by healthcare professionals and medical NGOs to reach almost any location.
A Doctor's Travel Packs consist of a range of primary care medicines packaged in two 41cm cubed boxes. The medicines include antibiotics, inhalers, antiparasitics, analgesics, creams, antifungal agents - in paediatrics and adult formulations.
In 2014 IHP was involved in the launch of EURMED – with the objective of ensuring the efficient and effective use of product donations from the European healthcare industry to address the needs of underserved communities around the world.
