These judgements, brought upon the earth because of its sin, are a stark reminder of how serious continued rebellion against God really is.

Whilst this would undoubtedly have performed a vital public health role in the ancient community of Israel, it was as much a lesson in the difference between clean and unclean - a visual aid to teach the Israelites about God's holiness.
