Editorial

We can not stay the same by standing still. The place of yesterday's promise becomes the place of today's blessing, but the place of tomorrow's barrenness unless we move on with God (from David deSilva Scripture Union 'Encounter with God' 28/7/97). Patrick Dixon ('The Boomerang Effect') shows us how fast is the rate of change in both medicine and mission. Rob Wilson ('Dinosaur Doctor') asks whether he is the last of a sub-species of medical mission hospital doctors. We have to be able to adapt. Hilary Cope ('Seeing "Eye to Eye" in Baluchistan') joined a team to run an eye camp under far from ideal conditions but the results sound far more dramatic than the same operations carried out under ideal conditions. We love God more when we see more of the depths from which we are being delivered. Sarah Germain and Theresa Wilson ('Two Electives at Rusitu Hospital') found that the hospital evangelist's message is still good news today. Rob Wilson concludes that God still loves the suffering and the oppressed and is still looking for hearts and hands to show it. We honour those such as John Miller ('Obituary'), by building on the same foundation as them, a structure appropriate to today's situation not by imitating their architecture. We must ask for wisdom and inspiration.
