The Central Services department supports CMF's ministry and its members through maintaining the membership database, dealing with finances and IT, and looking after the premises. Our aim is to serve our colleagues in ministry and to serve the wider membership. We seek to do this as efficiently as possible, so that we spend less on administration and more on ministry.

One way we have sought over the past 18 months to increase our efficiency has been to encourage members to make their regular payments to CMF by Direct Debit rather than by Standing Order. In the last year we have also switched more and more of our banking from Barclays Bank (which charges us for each transaction) to CAF Bank, which makes no charges!

However, we still have 1,100 members with standing orders being paid into our Barclays bank account. If you are one of them, we ask you please:
Ideally, switch to making payments by Direct Debit, which is easier for us to process; or If you are unwilling to do so, create a new standing order and send your money to the CAF Bank instead.

Obituaries

Harold Adeney (q The London Hospital 1938; d – CMF informed April 2010) was for many years a medical missionary working in Burundi with the Ruanda Mission, before becoming the General Secretary of the Church Mission Society.

Paul Collings (q King's College Hospital 1982; d March 2010) became a consultant psychiatrist in Durham. After qualification he was active on CMF's junior doctors' committee.

John Dorward (q Edinburgh 1975; d 22 March 2010) worked in Ekwendeni Hospital in Malawi before becoming a GP in Eyemouth, Berwickshire with his wife Ishbel.

Elizabeth Harvey (q Manchester 1938; d March 2010). 'She valued her association with CMF through so many of her 96 years.' Laurence Henry (q Birmingham 1952; d June 2010) was Professor of Pathology in Sheffield.

Geoffrey Irvine (q Edinburgh 1961; d – CMF informed April 2010) lived in Kenya.

Jack Goddard Jones (q King's College Hospital 1935; d – CMF informed May 2010) was a GP in Rhyl, North Wales.

Hugh Kennedy (q Glasgow 1950; d 11 January 2010) went to the Congo in 1956 with the Baptist Missionary Society and later as a consultant ophthalmologist in Glasgow made many overseas visits.

David Landsborough (q The London Hospital 1937; d 2 March 2010) was a neurologist who became Superintendent at the Christian Hospital in Chang Hwa, Taiwan, where he had been born.

Alasdair Malcolm (q The Middlesex Hospital 1968; d 23 March 2010) was a physician with an advisory consultancy, and an officer of the Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine.

Ronald Markillie (q St Thomas's Hospital 1939; d – CMF informed March 2010) was a consultant psychiatrist in Leeds.

Anthony Morgan (q Bristol 1961; d 10 August 2009) became a consultant gastroenterologist and Medical Director for Airedale NHS Trust.

Brian Prichard (q St George's Hospital 1958; d April 2010) was Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at University College and Middlesex School of Medicine. He was awarded the CBE.

Elizabeth Topley (q University College Hospital 1939; d 14 December 2009) became a haematology professor. She was active in the Maidstone Quaker meeting.

Victor Wheble (q King's College Hospital 1944; d 10 January 2010) served in the Congo with the Baptist Missionary Society, before becoming a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Ashton under Lyne, and pioneering one of the first shoulder joint implants.
