1-13 February saw the annual National Student Conference at Swanwick. David Robertson and Andrew Fergusson were the main speakers (podcasts on the website); a UCCF band provided the music; and there was a host of seminar leaders. All helped us to apply God's Word to life in university and medicine as we live and speak for Jesus, and to respond in prayer and praise. All in all, it was an excellent weekend, very challenging and encouraging.
- Fantastic weekend. Can we have it more than once a year?!
- I really want to thank you all for such an amazing conference, this has lifted me so much. I was really struggling before I came here. All the seminars addressed my worries and I'm changed going back home. God is great!
- Best conference in my four years of med school!
- [the] seminar was so inspiring I was reduced to tears a few times
- Really fantastic practical teaching, very clear and challenging
- Inspiring talks, focus clearly on God and his majesty, really humbling
The week before, 12 students from eight different counties came to our International Student Preconference in London, organised by Liz McClenaghan, our student intern. The teaching and fellowship were wonderful; so inspiring to see students from these countries hungry to learn and eager to apply what they've learned back home.
Planning ahead?
Summer holidays are precious – so use them well, and start planning early! We hope to be sending Summer Teams to different Eastern European and Central Asian countries, helping with medical school camps there.
August 29- September 2 is our CMF Summer School in Cumbria – a week of in-depth teaching and fun. And there are lots of other short-term missions, children's camps and Christian festivals that happen over the summer too.
Outside of holidays, CMF can also supervise student SSCs and SSMs – there are lots of different projects we could support. And we're always looking for intercalating students who could work a couple of days a week as an intern for CMF.
If you're a student, and interested in any of the above, do get in touch. And if you're not a student, encourage those who are!
Supporting medical students
It is a huge blessing to have local doctors able to give up time to serve with CMF, and it's great that Rachel Wilson is joining us as an Associate Staff Worker in Sheffield. Rachel is medical school secretary there, and is now able to give a day a week to the work of supporting the student group. Do get in touch if this is something you might be able to do yourself, or if there is any other way you could support students in your area.
