Summer teams
Four teams of students are set to work in European locations over the next few weeks. Giles Cattermole is taking two students to Norway; John and Celia Wyatt, five students to Finland; three students are helping at a locally-run camp in Poland. Two students are Latvia bound. It is a great encouragement to see an increase in the numbers of students going on these trips. Three of these camps have been organised by students who attended the International Medical Student Conference in February, demonstrating its value and significance in forming connections between Christian medical students in different countries. There is still time to join the team to Latvia, so please email Giles if you are interested.

KLICE summer school
'Serving Christ in secular medicine' is the theme for the summer school of the Kirby Laing Institute for Christian Ethics (KLICE) to be held at Tyndale House, Cambridge, 9-10 September 2013. John Wyatt is the main speaker in a programme aiming to equip and encourage medical students, junior doctors and healthcare workers to consider how to face the major ethical challenges in contemporary medicine. Leadership training
At the CMF National Conference in April, student leaders met to receive training for leadership in their local groups, using the new manual Connect, Learn, Serve. On 2-6 September UCCF Forum is taking place – a great opportunity for student leaders to receive Bible teaching and be equipped and trained for service at university. Places available; bookings close 31 August.
Freshers
Looking ahead to freshers' week, we would encourage graduates to be looking out for new undergraduates, and thinking about how they can pray for, encourage and support them.

Meet Tom Roberts
Tom Roberts has joined the staff as the new part-time Communications Coordinator where he will anchor publications, e-books and media work.
Tell us a little about yourself?
I'm from a non-Christian family background and became a Christian when I was 15. I studied History at Southampton, was involved in the CU and attended Above Bar Church.
What appeals to you about the job?
I am one of those odd people who really enjoys proofreading and editing, so this part of the job appeals to me a lot! I am excited about helping CMF to develop and improve on their existing resources, as well as being involved in some great new projects. I'm also looking forward to developing my own skills and learning from other members of the team.
What is it about CMF that appeals to you?
At University I knew lots of Christian medical students, who really benefited from being part of CMF. I think it is great to have an organisation specifically aimed at supporting Christian medics. I love CMF's commitment to uniting and equipping Christian doctors to live for Christ and witness to him in their work, and in providing a Christian voice on important ethical issues.
Tell us about your wife and your church commitments.
Chloe and I met at university and married in June 2012. She's a primary school teacher in Ealing and has just finished her first year of teaching. We live in Shepherd's Bush and belong to Trinity West Church, a new church plant bringing the gospel to the area. We both serve in the Sunday School and are excited about the work God has begun in Shepherd's Bush.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy indulging my history-geek tendencies, dragging Chloe to lots of museums and interesting places. I especially like the biblical archaeology exhibits in the British Museum. I enjoy a good book with a cup of tea and country walks with Chloe.
Catherine Butcher, Head of Communications for the last two years, left CMF staff at the end of June returning to freelance writing. CMF will miss her calm leadership and eye for detail. A lot has been achieved under her watch and CMF is grateful. John Martin steps up from Senior Editor to be Head of Communications and continues as Managing Editor of Triple Helix and other publications. Tom Roberts (mentioned left) joins the Communications staff as part-time Communications Coordinator. He earlier helped organise the 2013 International Medical Students Conference (IMSC).
Fiona Schneider leaves CMF in July to devote more time to her medical career. Thank you to Fiona for great work as a Graduate Staffworker over two and a half years. She will continue as a CMF Link.
Philippa Taylor, CMF Head of Public Policy, achieved a personal best of 2 hours 49 minutes in the 2013 London Marathon. Philippa has been running seriously for six years, and regularly competes at all distances from 800m to cross country, 10kms, halves and marathons and ultramarathons. She says: 'Running has opened up a whole new community of wonderful friends from all walks of life and provided opportunities to gently talk about my faith, with several coming to evangelistic events at church.'
Another athletic staff member is Eleanor Orr (CMF Senior Accountant) who completed the London to Brighton bike ride for the third time, raising over £400 for the British Heart Foundation.
