Thank you to the 20 or so who responded to the first CMF eNewsletter. We particularly appreciated the comment 'Don't make it too long or too frequent'. We won't! We hope that through the brief summaries and through clicking on the links, you'll be informed, encouraged, and stimulated to prayer and action.
Member matters
Many CMF juniors remain caught up in the current manpower crisis brought about by Modernising Medical Careers. See update and letter from JDC Chair at www.cmf.org.uk
CMF put out a press release to the Christian media asking the whole church for support and prayer: www.cmf.org.uk
Conferences
The national graduate conference last month on discipleship was characterised by members and their families 'doing business with God': www.cmf.org.uk
Our partners at PRIME have a conference on 4 - 5 June to develop a curriculum for teaching whole person medicine: www.healthserve.org
Probably 1 member in 4 has teaching responsibilities – this event could be a watershed for Christian teaching.
Ethics
In this 40th Anniversary year of the Abortion Act, there has already been much media coverage of GP opinions and CMF members have been quoted. Ann Winterton MP has a Ten Minute Rule Bill debate in the Commons on 5 June with some very reasonable proposals: www.cmf.org.uk
In this 5th anniversary week of Diane Pretty's death, and a year since Lord Joffe's assisted suicide Bill was resoundingly defeated, there is good news on the euthanasia front. Baroness Finlay's palliative care bill is progressing: www.carenotkilling.org.uk
Radio 4's popular programme, Case Notes, has set the record straight about the use of morphine in palliative care: www.carenotkilling.org.uk
and the US state of Vermont has decided not to follow Oregon and legalise PAS: www.carenotkilling.org.uk
Our new home
We have had access to 6 Marshalsea Road, London SE1 1HL from 8 May to start essential refurbishment, we complete on 8 June, and move in on 15-16 June:
www.cmf.org.uk
The Appeal to purchase this property has almost reached £1.3 million. Please consider giving if you have not yet done so: www.cmf.org.uk
Thank you! Please pray about the finance, and all the logistics of the move. May we settle in quickly and continue taking Christianity into the medical world through our discipleship, evangelism, mission and proclamation.
'Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus' (Philippians 4:6-7)
