D-day has passed for many juniors who had applied in the first round of MTAS, and we know of disappointed doctors with no jobs as yet. Please pray and do what you can to support colleagues locally. There is an online consultation as part of Professor Sir John Tooke's independent inquiry into MMC – CMF will be making a formal corporate submission, but please take a few minutes now to influence the future, perhaps particularly from the perspectives of protecting marriage and family life, and getting service overseas recognised properly: MMC Inquiry Website and go to their 'Questionnaire'.
You have until 31 July to respond to that one (though why not this weekend?) but we would press you to respond to the following two in the next couple of days:
(Draft) Human Tissue and Embryos bill
This controversial piece of draft legislation proposes creating human-animal hybrids, and removing the requirement for a father from those to be created by ART, thus further undermining concepts of family. CMF has already responded to the Parliamentary scrutiny committee but there is an opportunity until Tuesday 26 June to respond online in your personal capacity. Go to the parliaments Questionnaire and then click on the 4 separate questions under 'Topic'. You can give your own views and also be encouraged for once by reading what others have written, but you only have until Tuesday 26 June to do this.
BMA ARM – Motions on abortion
We recently flagged up the controversy about abortion looming next week: BMA ARM. Further information and an online petition criticising the radical liberalising proposals and calling instead for an enquiry that consults all BMA members and frontline doctors can be found at www.bmapetition.org.uk. If you want to register your views, please do so this weekend to help influence the process in Torquay on Wednesday (27 June).
