Public policy

CMF submissions

CMF makes regular submissions to official bodies on a wide range of issues at the interface of Christianity and medicine. In the last four months we have responded to consultations on prosecuting cases of child sexual abuse, mitochondrial donation, abortion for anencephaly, children's involvement and preventing sexually transmitted infections.

All are available on our website at www.cmf.org.uk/publicpolicy/submissions. See also regular comment on topical issues on the CMF Blogs pages: www.cmfblog.org.uk

Assisted suicide debates

With the Falconer and MacDonald bills attempting to legalise assisted suicide due for debate in the New Year (see Triple Helix) dialogue is hotting up. CMF CEO and CNK Director Peter Saunders was involved in formal debates on 'assisted dying' in November in both London and Oxford with Lord Falconer (and others) and former MP and Liberal Democrat health spokesman Dr Evan Harris respectively. The text of Peter's talk at the former debate on the 'slippery slope' (along with a full review) is available on the Care Not Killing website: bit.ly/1camAfF

Farewell to Annie

At Christmas Annie Leggett, our full time nurses staffworker for the last three years, will be moving on to pastures new. Annie has made a huge contribution to the life of the fellowship over the last few years, and has pioneered the student ministry from the ground floor up. Anyone who has met Annie knows she is a bundle of energy and fun with a deep love for the Lord and his people. She will be missed by all the team. Join with us in praying that the Lord would bless her as she moves back into church pastoral ministry.

Other staff news

In other staff/volunteer news, Alice Johnson is taking a year out after FY2 working with students and juniors in the west Midlands. Emma Pedlar (Manchester) and Rachel Perry (Southampton) are both doing intercalated courses in global health and are working as volunteers with CMF for two days a week, assisting the International and Student departments. Emma is helping organise the 2014 International Medical Students' Conference in February.

Opportunities for Volunteers
