At the hospital I participated in ward rounds and clinics and was expected to follow the final year students around. I did two weeks of medicine, one week of obstetrics and gynaecology and one week of paediatrics. I expected more practical hands-on experience and possibly more tropically unique conditions. It was interesting to see how medicine is practised in another country.
This elective would be suitable for those who like the structure of English medicine - it's very similar. In time off visit Cape Coast and waterfalls in the south, as well as going on safari. The hospital can provide rooms on site for elective students.
My elective was organised through family member and approximately cost £1000.
