Know Your Bible 37

Answers

  1. Nadab and Abihu, the eldest sons of Aaron, died when they presumptuously attempted to carry out their priestly duties in an unauthorised manner (Lv 10:1,2). Their deaths remind us that the God we serve is not only loving but also holy and righteous, . We should not take our relationship with him lightly or treat him flippantly.
  2. Isaiah’s mouth was touched with a burning coal (Is 6:6,7) to symbolise the cleansing of his guilt and the forgiving of his sin. Yet for him as for us there is only one source of forgiveness. As John writes, ‘the blood of Jesus, [God’s] son, purifies us from all sin’. (1 Jn 1:7)
  3. It was Jesus who took his disciples to live for a while in Ephraim, near the Judean desert (Jn 11:54). This was due to a plot to take his life. Whilst not afraid of opposition, Jesus knew that his time had not yet come.
