Differential Diagnosis - introduction

This is a new series in which we look at physical ailments in the Bible and try to diagnose them according to todays medical knowledge... Here's the first question - The child grew. and one day he went out to his father, who was with the reapers. 'My head, my head!' he said to his father. His father told a servant 'Carry him to his mother... ' the boy sat on her lap until noon, and then died.' 2 Kings 4:18-20
  1. What are the two most probable diagnoses?
  2. Which of these is more likely?
  3. Why?
  4. What underlying pathology might predispose to this?
  5. Was Elisha's management really CPR?
  6. Why or why not?

Luke's opinion in the next issue.
