Fishing the Net

Hmmm. Evolution. Creationism. This should be a nice quiet topic. Altavista holds over 100 000 sites containing both the words evolution and creation. To help you pick your way through this highly charged debate, I have selected a few choice sites that put forward their case in a calm rational manner.

talk.origins is a newsgroup for the discussion of the origins of the universe and ourselves, although most of it is on the evolution/creationist debate. It is also unmoderated (there is no censorship, and no control on the content of postings), so it tends to get a little ... boisterous. Do not enter if you are easily offended.

www.talkorigins.org is a pro-evolution site, taking some of its material from the talk.origins newsgroup. There is also a good explanation of theistic evolution on the site at this page, and a more detailed description can be found here.

Oddly, there is relatively little other material in support of theistic evolution, which seems to be the mainstream views of most Christian denominations.

There is a large archive of anti-evolutionary material at the CS Lewis Archive, hosted by Trinity College in the US.

Surrogacy is another contentious topic, yet there are very few sites that address the subject, and still fewer that consider the ethical aspects in any detail. Most of the sites are either support groups for infertile couples, or clinics offering their services. There is an interesting article by Scott Rae on the ethics of the new reproductive technologies. And finally, there is www.ihr.com/infertility/treatmnt.html, which is a starting point for learning more about the various infertility treatments. Beware. Many of these pages will have pictures of cute babies on them. You have been warned.
