ss nucleus - autumn 1994, Lemuel's Limericks

Lemuel's Limericks

A couple with fated ontogeny
Desired to help human phylogeny
They read (in the tabloids) that donated haploids
Could grant them their much wanted progeny

A specialist in infertility
Had diagnosed 'mutual sterility'
But gametes from Ken and some ova from Gwen
Still gave John and Sue the ability

At this point Sue made the admission
She wasn't keen on parturition
And thought to enquire about surrogate hire
(Patricia then gave her permission)

The zygotes were made in a dish
One 'reject' was ditched (parents' wish)
Two others were frozen and three fin' lly chosen
For placement inside 'Aunty Trish'

One baby succumbed (never mind)
Another was thought to be blind
Selective abortion ('a measure of caution')
Left one (born consumer-designed)
