A clever young Christian from Poole
Accepted for medical school
Was keen to excel, and endeavoured to sell
The idea that he wasn't a fool
Ensuring spare moments were sparse
(Intending not merely to pass)
He buried his head in the books that he read
And finished up top of his class
He thought that his efforts would cause
His colleagues to ponder and pause
But they passed him off as a nerd and a toff
Who lived by some self-imposed laws
Important as actions may be
Our reaching the top of the tree
Communicates nought of what Christ was about
Nor glorifies him they can't see
The Gospel's God's power, it's true
But those who are lost need a clue
They'll never believe it, unless they receive it
In plain words from me or from you
